Oxfam Shop Re-opening 6 October 2005

Derby County footballer Nathan Doyle (18) officially re-opened the refurbished Oxfam Shop in Derby on Thursday 6 October. The appearance of Doyle to cut the ribbon is a continuation of Derby County's support for the Derby Fairtrade City Group which began back in March 2005 during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Within the newly refurbished store, you can find an extensive range of Fair Trade food.

The DCCP's Andy Smith was on hand to support the opening.

Doyle also presented lucky winner Nathan Towle with his prize of a Fairtrade football signed by the Derby County first team. Nathan (17) won the prize in a raffle at the Derby Eco-Fest event in early September. Nathan, a St John's Ambulance volunteer, was clearly excited about receiving his prize and meeting Doyle.

Special thanks to Nathan Doyle as he had earlier played a full 90 mins in an inter-squad game and then took part in a full weights session before attending. It seems that the new boss is working the squad hard!

For the record, Nathan's team won 4-1.

Background notes
The DCCP brought the Derby Fairtrade City Group and Derby County together for the Fairtrade Fortnight event in March 2005.

Rammie used Fairtrade footballs during his half-time penalty shoot-out during the Plymouth match on Saturday 5 March.

This event helped Derby Fairtrade City Group achieve a Fairtrade Fortnight Award for being the first group ever to persuade a professional football club have a matchday initiative involving Fairtrade footballs.
